Every main cast member in Utena can fit into one or two of the following fairy tale archetypes: princess, witch, and prince. Utena herself clearly matches up with both princess and prince, but I wanted to try and put her in perspective with the witch.

12 Days of Anime: #7 Any line she can say I can say better
August 2012. I rewatched the English Madoka trailer. I wanted to rinse my ears out and promptly closed the Internet to rid my mind of what I had just heard. I jokingly thought to myself, “I could to a better job than any members of that cast could.” Then I rewatched that trailer. But this time, I acted out every single line. And it was really fucking fun.
No. 1 Anime Heroine
So ANN reported that there’s a contest to determine the No. 1 anime heroine in the past fifty years. This creates a wonderful excuse for me to gush about my favorite female anime character of all time. (Spoilers ahead.)
12 Moments in Anime: #2 The Greatest Mindfuck
I’ve watched tons of shitty anime, but a lot of excellent ones as well. Many of which have made it onto my Top 30. But none of them, not even Baccano! or Madoka Magica, had as much of an impact on me as one show did.
An anime that only took me two days to complete, including the movie. An anime that captured my heart and mind like no other. An anime that really made me think. An anime that actually made me want to write. A lot. An anime that simultaneously confounded and fascinated my brain time and time again. This year, I watched the greatest shoujo series ever created. Twice.
Moment #2: Watching Revolutionary Girl Utena.
