All caught up: Oyasumi Punpun
I checked this out thanks to Draggle’s recommendation back at the end of 2011. (Didn’t get around to starting it until May 2012, though.) He wasn’t kidding, this manga is amazing.
There are so many things that make Oyasumi Punpun awesome:
- Our titular protagonist is pictured as a poorly drawn bird. And how is appearance is so malleable throughout.
- The art is stunning
- Everyone’s problems seem so realistic.
- I especially love how the author, Asano Inio, treats sex. It’s refreshing to see a manga where sex isn’t either a giant joke or a taboo.
The most recent events with Aiko and her mother finally convinced me to rate this a ten on MAL. Aiko’s character is just so fragile, I love her.
I can’t wait until the next volume is released.
Good vibrations.

Glad you liked it! I need to catch up… I ordered the first six volumes in Japanese with the intention of practicing on them and blogging them, but I wanted to do Shadow Star Narutaru first… and unfortunately my order for Shadow Star Narutaru got lost in international shipping, so I haven’t done either.
Good vibrations!
Shadow Star Narutaru is another manga I’ve had on my plan to read list for a while now. Haven’t gotten around to it yet, though.
And oh man, that sucks.
Sorry about that, bro.
