Porco Rosso Review – A

The film is about Porco Rosso, a human who was somehow turned into a pig. He’s a pilot and a bounty hunter and takes down bad air pirates. He’s known as Porco Rosso (“Crimson Pig”) because of his famous red plane.

This is an incredibly fun movie. I loved every minute of it. The idea is creative, it’s well paced and the characters feel very human and are likable. I even took a liking to Fio, who is definitely my least favorite member of the cast. For Ghibli standards, it’s surprisingly not too fantastical. But that’s definitely not a bad thing.

  • Plot: A – Entertaining and well constructed.
  • Characters: A - Porco is an awesome protagonist.
  • Art: A – Pretty darn good for cel animation.
  • Music: A – Another great Hisaishi soundtrack.
  • Enjoyment: A+ – It’s such a fun movie.
  • Overall: A - Definitely one of my favorite Ghibli films now
