January 2012 Rankings
Unsurprisingly, a couple of the longer running shows changed their opening and ending visuals and songs. While I’m pretty much unimpressed by all of them, I’d like to mention something about Mirai Nikki’s new opening sequence. Aside from the obvious color switch from red to blue, and that the people are the only ones in color now (opposed to the red background), did anyone else notice that besides Yuno, Minene is the only one who isn’t blue? Just a thought.
Symphogear 04 – Then there was one
Seriously? Now we’re stuck with this bitch as the only heroine? FFFFFFFUUUUUU-
Symphogear Character CD – Zwei Wing
- Gyakkou no Flugel – The song that they sang in that ambitiously attempted concert at the beginning of the first episode. I really like the song. the electronic instrumentals are cool, and Nana-chan and Takayami Minami sound really great together. For a song made for animated idols, it’s pretty damn good.
- Orbital Beat – I found this track significantly weaker than its predecessor. I think the chorus is my least favorite part of the song. The overall tone of the song is undoubtedly darker. But it lacks the same edge and also the range that Gyakkou no Flufel has. I wonder if we’ll hear this song in the anime.
I really love the way these ladies’ voices resonate together. It’s a shame that there weren’t more songs. Maybe we’ll get bonus tracks or something on future releases.
Akira Review – A
This movie’s been on my Plan to watch list for ages, and I finally got a chance to see its greatness.
The Place Promised in Our Early Days Review – B-
Another Shinkai movie down. I didn’t like it as much as Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo, but anything’s still better than 5 Centimeters Per Second.
